The Hepatitis C virus is a challenge that can be overcome today, since it can be eradicated with a treatment of a few weeks.

However it is difficult to bring out the “submerged” of people unaware of being affected by this virus.

strategies

If several key strategies are successfully implemented, countries could collectively reach the WHO goal of reducing new infections by 80% by 2030, compared to 2015. But even with a successful implementation, the target of reducing HCV mortality by 65% needs more time, and that date would move to 2032.

goals

Objectives include improving infection control, extending harm reduction services for people who inject drugs (PWID), extending testing and increasing treatment with direct-action antivirals (DAA)which have healing rates above 90%.

treatment

Offering DAA at the time of diagnosis in all countries could prevent 640,000 deaths (620,000-670,000) from cirrhosis and liver cancer. For their assessments, the authors used a transmission model with data from 190 countries that provided demographic data; prevalence of drug injectors (PWIDs); current scope of treatment and prevention programs; natural history of HCV and its prevalence; and rates of deaths caused by HCV.

Global AIDS Report UNAIDS

COVID-19

The current situation linked to the COVID-19 emergency will certainly have a further impact on the intervention plans against HIV / AIDS and HCV as a result of the global recession expected for the coming months / years.

POPulation

Reduction of the possibility for local populations to take advantage of educational programs and to access screening and treatment measures for HCV - HIV infection.

TARGET

Recreational drug use often occurs in contexts where people come together and share drugs or the tools to take them. More generally, the stigmatization, marginalization, poverty associated with certain forms of drug use and social marginalization can not only increase the epidemic risk, but also create obstacles to the promotion of risk reduction measures.

LINK TO CARE

Treatment aimed at highly vulnerable populations such as those subject to addictions, consumption, social discomfort, marginalization and which entails a high degree of difficulty in carrying out screening and creating a linkage to care.

LATE PRESENTERS

To bring out, in the key target populations of the project, the undeclared in the context of HCV HIV infections both in reference to the undeclared "endemic" to the target populations, and in reference to the undeclared created with the reduction, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, of the screening offer and actions on risk / harm reduction towards these populations.

SCREENING TESTS

Through the proposal of rapid screening tests, the project aims to contribute to creating a culture of prevention, self-care, even in a vulnerable and fragile population such as those of addictions, consumption and social unease.

COMMUNITY BASE

The interventions are planned in a "community base" and non-health environment, already known and frequented by the target population of the project. The counselor figure remains the most suitable in supporting the person.

Identification

Percentage of subjects with chronic hepatitis C identified in the reference populations completing 1 anti-HCV therapeutic course with direct antiviral drugs and the subsequent 24-week follow-up.

Prevalence

Prevalence of anti-HCV and HCV-RNA in the reference population

Access to treatment

Description of the obstacles in accessing hospital services

Staging

Assessment of the degree of progress of liver disease in the reference population that is HCV-positive

Assessment

Evaluation of the safety and tolerability of the anti-HCV treatment

SVR12

Evaluation of the percentage of SVR12 in the reference population.

Counseling

Evaluation of the effectiveness of counseling in preventing reinfections

Street Unit

Street Unit

It is a service aimed at people with problematic consumption and dependence on substances that have a predominantly street life. The activities take place directly in the meeting places and spontaneous aggregation of the consumers of substances using a van equipped
